    At Washway Road Day Nursery we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is a statutory document that supports professionals working with children in the early years.
  • Planning the curriculum

    Practitioners will consider the individual needs, interests, and stage of development of each child in their care, and use this information to plan a challenging and enjoyable experience for each child.

    At Nursery the inside and outside environments are carefully planned into workshop areas, which allow children to make choices, develop independence and re‐visit experiences to reinforce their learning. We follow the seasonal patterns of the year, carefully planning challenging and enjoyable experiences for children, from making bread at harvest time, to feeding the birds in the winter, to planting in the spring and celebrating carnival in the summer. Staff will evaluate learning and plan on a daily basis so that they can follow and support the individual interests of children. All areas of learning are important and interconnected.

  • At Washway road nursery our activities incorporate the seven areas of learning, and development that must shape educational programmes in early year’s settings. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, from relationships and thrive.

    These three areas, the prime areas are;

    • Communication and language
    • Physical development
    • Personal, social and emotional development

    As providers we must also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.

    The specific areas are:

    • Literacy
    • Mathematics
    • Understanding of the world
    • Expressive arts and design
